#2 Contact the Mid-City West Community Council

Neighborhood Councils were mandated by the new Los Angeles City Charter in June of 1999. They were created to give neighborhoods a voice in policy making and influence over the way government does business. They are charged with the responsibility of advising city departments, agencies, boards and commissions on matters of importance to our community, with providing input in the Mayor's budget process and with monitoring the delivery of city services. As stated on the Council's website, "Mid City West is your voice at City Hall and responds to and considers the myriad issues that impact and concern our community ... both local and citywide."

Our experience is that Mid City West was far more responsive to the La Brea Gateway developers than to the community, and were far more eager to be Bomel/J. Martin's voice than ours. Through a process that was questionable at best (if not hopelessly flawed), the Council voted in favor of the Gateway project!

Please contact the Mid-City West Community Council and express your continued outrage at their decision. Request that the project be brought back for real scrutiny and a full and transparent hearing:

# 3 Contact advocates from the entertainment industry!

The City Planning Commission has charged us to bring to them LA City government officials who would testify that the site is important for the entertainment industry and for LA's economy generally as a light-industrial property, and should therefore not be rezoned.

To this end, we need advocates from the entertainment industry who could support, encourage, and validate such testimony. Please contact people you know in the entertainment industry and put them in touch with us at labreacoalition@gmail.com or (323) 939-2754.

NOTE: The issue here is not the buildings currently inhabiting the property—the former KCOP facilities; we recognize that those are, at best, aging, and, at worst, obsolete. We are talking about the property itself—and the sorts of entertainment industry-related businesses that could make good use of it.

WE REMAIN UNITED IN FIGHT!

LA BREA-WILLOUGHBY COALITION is an organization of concerned homeowners and residents of all social and economic strata who strongly oppose the La Brea Gateway Project.

The Martin Group and Bomel Company have developed the project, a building of seven stories—two commercial, two comprised of 219 residential units, and three above-ground parking area (along with one underground). The rezoning would eliminate yet another piece of fast-disappearing industrial property and jobs — with a devastating effect on the city's economy. The proposed project is completely incompatible with this neighborhood of one- and two-story residences.

Please contact us at any time for further information or comments: labreacoalition@gmail.com. And please inform your friends and neighbors of this assault on our neighborhood.
